Each campus will feature a discussion from an Early Childhood Education Professional.

  • Learn about the growing demand for educators with the tools to teach and support children with diverse learning needs such as English Language Learners and Children with Special Needs.
  • Gain a better understanding of the world of Early Childhood Education.
  • Earn In-Service Credit for attending (certificates will be awarded to attendees).

Judy Sweat from PACER Center will share info about working with children with special needs and their families in early childhood settings.

She will also share her insights about the value of early childhood educators being well-versed in this topic.  In-service certificates will be available.

Danelle Griner – presenting from 5:45-6:15pm CST

Through individual and group sessions Danelle Griner offers art instruction that provides opportunities for increased self esteem and promotes problem solving and decision making skills for individuals with special needs.  Danelle has a B.A. in Art Studio and a B.A. in Art Education.

She has extensive experience working with children and adults in various settings encouraging personal development through the process of creating art.

Danielle has graciously shared her most recent art exhibit “A Different Point of View: Artists with Autism,” with the Eagan campus.  The pieces have been created by children with Autism and will be on display November 4th.

Terri Buttleman & Judith Abla – presenting together from 6:15pm-7:15pm CST

Terri worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 15 years. During that time she had the opportunity to work with an expansive variety of diagnosis such as traumatic brain injury, autism, and an extensive gamut of respiratory deficiency in young children.

Terri will be focusing on the value of preparing teachers to work with children with special needs, advocacy on behalf of children and their families, the value of inclusion, and sharing her personal story.

Judith is currently working as an Assistant Director at the Lower Afton location of New Horizon’s Academy.  She graduated from Rasmussen College with a degree in Business Management and an emphasis in Early Childhood Development.  She is working towards obtaining a position as a center director in the child care industry.

Judith will be addressing the topic of ELL and Family Services and why an understanding of both are necessary when working in the ECE field.

Margaret will be speaking on issues surrounding ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education).  Margaret is an ECSE teacher and also works in special services (screening) for District 833—South Washington County schools.

The Make It & Take It event on Saturday, November 14th is going to focus on Art. The event will include 5 teacher projects.

All are welcome but space is available on a first come, first serve basis. In-service hours awarded.
